Mental Health Month Starts Today!

It seems like people talk about mental health a lot, but not enough to make things change drastically. We still live in a society where there is too much suicide, too much depression, anxiety and stress, too much drug addiction, alcohol and food addiction, too much prescribed medication addiction….It’s too much for far too long!

As an advanced society, we should take care of our own people. Sometimes, it seems we do as individuals, but as a society not so much. As a society, our health priorities are all wrong. How is it possible that we can buy a $1,500 cellphone, but we can’t sign up for a gym membership? Why can we go and buy cooked food at a restaurant for at least $15 a meal either once or twice a day, but we find it expensive to spend $100 a week on produce and protein? Why is a $30 bottle of wine okay to buy, but we complain for the price of quality water? All these things affect our mental health and we resist giving these up. Our mental health depends on our choices; food, water, sleep, exercise, spiritual and intellectual lifestyle. When we neglect either of these pillars, we are decreasing brain and mind effectiveness. If the choices we make include adding drugs, alcohol, prescriptions, envy, stress, rage and isolation, we are setting ourselves up for catastrophe sooner or later. Why do we fear giving up the things that are hurting our mental and brain health? Why is it so difficult to make better choices? We are emotionally attached to the things we do daily and it makes it very difficult to stop doing them. Guess what? When you take care of your routines, eating habits and invest in your health education, you are changing all the odds of your health in the future. It makes it a thousand times easier to get better control of your mental health. Our complimentary workshops are for this. We provide you with a free open education to teach everyone that wants to do better. Ask us for our next workshop and invite a friend to join. You will change your and your friend’s health outcome.

Reading and writing develop thousands of neuro-pathways in your brain.

Only then will I decide if I need a deeper understanding of the subject. If I do, I will apply the knowledge to my daily life, that’s how you get understanding.

Today is St. George’s Day. In Catalonia, where I am from, we celebrate St. George as Book day. We buy books and we give them.

The story of St. George is passed from generation to generation and celebrated by everyone. It’s a book and rose party. Men get a book from a woman and women get a rose from a man. It’s a one-day celebration where everyone gets a gift from a loved one or someone that wants to be.

I have always been a book nerd. I am not trying to be a smart ass. I am someone that reads for fun to keep my mind occupied in something productive when there is a worry. It is what I do and what I have done for years, and it works!

To me, books have acquired more interest in the last 4 years or so. I love gathering knowledge of all sorts. Don’t get me wrong, but what I use books for is for self-serving purposes when things get tough.

Yes, you heard me. When there is a stressor and I am having a hard time focussing my mind into thinking of what I want, I distract my mind with a book. I read, for the most part, books from thinkers, the classics or science. I do love science and I always try to get a hold of the latest release of a scientific book. The reason is because I am also a very spiritual person. I know it might sound weird to some, but science and spirituality are closer than you think. The one thing I like to do when I am reading is to find my own scientific approach to a spiritual book or find the spiritual approach to a scientific book. I always find it because these two are closer than most people think.

I have a “go to” book to keep my mind occupied, The Hidden Power from Thomas Troward. I then combine this with something entertaining or lighter. My last one is, The God Equation from Michio Kaku. I loved this book. Even though many people would think that these two books and authors have nothing in common, I can for sure see the similarities.

Spirituality and science have been holding hands since the beginning of time even though many resist to believe that. I am not going to try to convince anyone about anything, what I would like to do is encourage everyone to try to find time in their day to read and write a bit. Five minutes of writing and ten minutes of reading daily. If you are a beginner, this will make a big change in how you envision your possibilities in life. If you already read and write daily, challenge yourself in finding a way to blend your two passions in life. That way we’ll never have to choose, we can have it all!

Spring is the perfect time to create

I am sure you at least remember one story of your childhood where imagination was the rule to play. I certainly do! Imagination the biggest Universe there is. It is as big as you make it and has no limits or boundaries. It only depends on your limiting beliefs.

The good news is that imagination is flexible. It stretches, grows and morphs into anything you want. It can take you to the past or the future and can create your best self. Imagination can travel, build, transform or spread like gunpowder. Imagination is the power of your mind, your thoughts. It’s the safest most sacred place that only you have access to.

I remember when I was a kid around 4/5 years old (yes I do have really early memories), I would close my eyes and disappear in my mind. I truly believed I was totally gone to the point that I didn’t feel my body. I remember the day I learned I could fall and not feel the pain on my knees because I made the pain disappear by closing my eyes.

As an adult I had to learn how to exercise the imagination muscle. I lost the power of disappearing for many years. Today, through the power of imagination, I choose to be present at all times, this is my superpower. When my clients talk to me, I am only there. This is the same with my students, friends, children, family and acquaintances.  When someone talks to me, I listen because I am genuinely interested. If I am not, I would let them know. Imagination brought freedom of choice into my life and I am sticking with it forever.

What Matters to You

We all sometimes feel like the last kid on the block. Everybody goes before us and when it is time to take care of ourselves we feel we don’t have the energy anymore. Does it sound familiar to you? It happened to me!

Not anymore though. One of the most valuable things I learned is the fact that life will happen all the time, bad things, good things, normal things, boring things, life will keep happening always.  What matters the most is how you react towards those things and what you do with the hand that has been dealt to you.

If you want to live a more fulfilling life, a healthy and long life, you want to stop yourself before you complain when something challenging happens to you.

I used to complain about all sorts of things that happened to me. Today, I am grateful for those things that have made me the person I am today, a happy one!

Problems come, illness comes, this pandemic comes…there is nothing we can do when these issues sneak into our lives.

The one thing we can do is to see there is a learning opportunity for us in every hiccup in life. It only matters what you do with it and remember –

You can do, be and have anything you want in life.

Why not be happy today, just today!!

Thought with Action

Thinking happens naturally and automatically. Taking action, on the other hand, is a totally different business. How many times have you had an idea and never followed through?

In order to make things happen you need 3 things:

  • Have an idea
  • Make a committed decision
  • Take consistent action

Forget about the How and the When, if you take consistent action it will happen, yes or yes. Often we get wrapped up with the daily routines of work and “busy”-ness, and this doesn’t allow room for creativity. We go, go, go, and then one day we realize we have been living a life that is not fulfilling. I know because I did that for so many years!!!

I thought I loved what I was doing, I thought I was mildly happy, I thought my relationships were okay, until the day I thought everything in my life wasn’t good enough and I decided to live a fulfilling life. My next dilemma was, how was I going to do it?

It took a lot of courage to leave a pretty successful career, leave my country, and leave my loved ones to change my life, to do always and only what I wanted to do.

Throughout my life, I have changed my life several times.

When I felt my life wasn’t good enough, I changed it, I decided I wasn’t going to live a mediocre life. I didn’t want my children to learn to live a mediocre life, I wanted them to be happy, fulfilled in all areas and teach them to go for it, to do whatever it takes to achieve happiness in all areas, at least to always try it!

I am not perfect, my children are not perfect, but I won’t resign to being okay ever anymore, I did it and I didn’t like it. Taking consistent action in my life is a norm, I do it everyday in everything I do, because not doing it is not good enough.

Today when someone asks me, How is your day going? I can say, my day is going great, every day is a great day even when things don’t work out, still I see the good.

Take action every day to have the life you want to have, that brings you happiness.

When Dreams Become More

The word “dream” implies positivity, good feelings, forward-thinking, and wanting more out of life. The question is, why are we taught not to “dream”?  Are we made to believe that dreams don’t come true?

The dream is a state of mind, whether we are awake or asleep. We call it a dream when it is involuntary or a visualization when it is voluntary. Our conscience gives us the powers of thought and choice, neither of which can happen all the time. We are always thinking, and choosing, constantly. Even when we don’t make a choice, not choosing is itself, a choice.

Dreaming big matters. When we dream big, it forces us to step out of our comfort zone, it makes us uncomfortable because we are daring to go to a place we have never been to before. The unknown causes fear for most of us. Some people, however, the brave ones, dream big and when things get tough they get tougher.

What about change, though?  It voluntarily comes out of your consciousness, it comes from choice. If we apply this principle to changing old habits, we definitely put ourselves into a very uncomfortable situation. Isn’t that thrilling?

When I first dreamed of fulfilling my purpose by creating my own business and becoming an expert in brain and behavior through nutrition and the science of the mind, I never thought I would be so lucky to really do it one day!

I dreamed of working with wonderful clients, which I do

I dreamed of leading groups, which I do.

I dreamed of teaching one of my programs in community college, which I do.

I dreamed of networking with the smartest women in this country, which I do.

I dreamed of having the best team ever, which I do.

I dreamed of training professionals in becoming brain and behavior coaches, which I love doing more every day.

I dreamed of being a member of the council on suicide prevention on the county, which I am

I dreamed of working with veterans to give back to them, which I do with the Veterans Outreach Program.

I dreamed of working doing what I love everyday, which I do, I do, I do!

Dreams do come true if you never give up on them and for this reason I will keep dreaming big.

Dare to dream big, ignore what you were taught about dreaming, the power is yours.

Fear Not, Doubt Not

Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose our battle against fear.

Stress is nothing more than fear for the result we expect from a situation we are in or will be. Fear of being late, fear of not being worth it, fear of failing, fear of not being good enough, fear of not being lovable, fear of not being deserving. Why do most people get stressed from simple daily tasks related to relationships, careers, health, or money? The answer is very simple: we take everything personally when nothing actually is. We get attached to the payoff whether it is good or bad.

We tend to want to control everything around us. The reality is that most of the time circumstances and surroundings control us, otherwise we would never be stressed. This lack of control is the reason we get stressed in the first place.  Let me also introduce the idea to you of payoff.

Payoff is when we always get a little something out of negative or stressful situations. For example, we play the victim role, we get people to acknowledge us more, we draw attention to us in a positive or negative manner.

Now you can see the patterns that are created by repeating this cycle of stress. The payoff is the reason we get attached to the same stress repeatedly.

This situation is the reality of the majority of people in the world. They don’t own their life, they allow other people or surroundings to tell them how to live their life. The only thing that matters is YOU and what’s important to you, these should always go first. Take power in your life!

When We Think About Nourishing the Brain, We Can’t Do It Without Thinking in the Central Nervous System (CNS).

When We Think About Nourishing the Brain, We Can’t Do It Without Thinking in the Central Nervous System (CNS).

September 21, 2020

The CNS is what keeps everything moving, it’s what connects the brain to the rest of the body. Thanks to the CNS we can go from shaking to staying steady to even having goose bumps.

The CNS is divided in 2 systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system.

The sympathetic nervous system is the fight or fly system we experience every time we go into survival mode.

The parasympathetic nervous system is the one that kicks in when we are happy. What makes the CNS so intelligent is the fact that only one of these two systems can be active at any given time. Let’s break it down, shall we?

The Sympathetic nervous system is always alert, which it should be.

It is the primal nervous system. It is the one that helps us to survive when we are in extreme or life threatening situations.

It is the nervous system that kicks in when we are in danger even if we don’t realize it.

Today, this system gets activated  when our brain recognizes stress as survival. In this moment our brain sends the message to the CNS and the sympathetic nervous system gets into action, often for no major reason.

The parasympathetic nervous system is the one that gets activated when we do things that makes us happy, when we enjoy something.

This system kicks in when we feel loved or give love, when we hug our children, when we play and have fun, when we enjoy ourselves doing whatever brings peace and joy to our mind.

In today’s world we have to force ourselves to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Back in the day, the parasympathetic was the system that was always active unless men were hunting or were in danger.

There are things that we can do to bring up our parasympathetic nervous system throughout the day that will train our brain to not stay vigilant at all times.

  • Take 5 minutes break every hour.
  • Mindful breathing in your desk.
  • Exercise daily.
  • Practice gratitude, written or thought.
  • Take a 15 minutes walk during your lunch time.
  • Call your best friend to have an easy conversation.
  • Journal.
  • Meditate.
  • Hug your loved ones. Or the ones you don’t love so much.
  • Pet your pets.
  • Enjoy preparing a healthy meal.

Practice whatever brings joy, peace and happiness into your life as often as you can and enjoy!

Falling In Love With The Ideal

Falling in Love with the Ideal

Aug 18, 2020

How many times have you used the words ‘exactly’ or ‘perfect’ in a conversation?

What about the word ‘ideal’?

Usually, the ideal is used to describe the best result.

The use in this case is incorrect. The real meaning of “ideal” is the moment we really fall in love with an idea. For instance, it might have been the first time an idea enters your mind.

You created the idea out of nothing, it happened spontaneously and brought joy to you just by being in your thoughts.

This is the correct definition of the ideal, and here’s why it’s so important.  Why would I tell you this? Because I want you to know that everything is created twice.

At first, it exists as a thought and stays in this state until you manifest it as a physical thing.

First is created in your mind and when you take action is created physically. I created my ideal the day I adopted my daughter. Read her story here.

It is important to be aware. Remember that awareness is the opposite of ignorance and your mission is to awaken thousands of people, the more information you have the better you will fully help them as the Universe backs you up.

When the ideal happens in our mind for the first time, it is like a spark to start a fire, you have nothing and then all of a sudden a tiny spark starts a massive fire.

Metaphorically, the spark is the ideal, the fire is the burning desire, and if you don’t do something about it, it will keep burning until it consumes everything. It is impossible to ignore it.

Attracting Abundance in Your Life

Attracting Abundance in Your Life

Aug 11, 2020

Millions of people around the world have found the secret to a happy and successful life.  Why not you?

Abundance, it’s what we’re all searching for, but what is it?

Abundance is found in giving more than receiving.  Picture this, you enter a room full of people.

Colleagues, friends, and clients you meet are left with a profound feeling. You are adding value to their lives.

Not necessarily monetary value, but the overall feeling of increase.  It is commonly experienced simply as the desire for a more abundant life, more experiences, and richer ones, at that.

Transfer to others the impression of going forward with everything you do.  All people receive the idea that you are a successful person.  Give people you meet the message of increase by embodying the spirit of success.

Do everything with the firm belief that you are an advancing being, and that you carry with you the power to bring the same energy to others.  People will feel a sense of increase when they are in your presence, and they will be attracted to you.

If you always take honest pride in what you do, you will always have customers flocking to you.

If you are thinking in your mind, “fake it til you make it”, you have already lost this battle.  This isn’t what abundance means.  What you can reflect on is the following.

Think of a time in your recent life, when you were interacting with someone who didn’t quite understand how to do something.  You know in your mind exactly how to help them, what words to say, what steps to demonstrate, and you plan in your mind how you will help them.  Simultaneously, you have no thought of any means of payback, nor any means of being compensated for the help you will give.

This is the impression of increase.

Now you can understand exactly how you have left them with the experience of abundance.
