Mindset Behavior

Thought with Action

Thinking happens naturally and automatically. Taking action, on the other hand, is a totally different business. How many times have you had an idea and never followed through?

In order to make things happen you need 3 things:

  • Have an idea
  • Make a committed decision
  • Take consistent action

Forget about the How and the When, if you take consistent action it will happen, yes or yes. Often we get wrapped up with the daily routines of work and “busy”-ness, and this doesn’t allow room for creativity. We go, go, go, and then one day we realize we have been living a life that is not fulfilling. I know because I did that for so many years!!!

I thought I loved what I was doing, I thought I was mildly happy, I thought my relationships were okay, until the day I thought everything in my life wasn’t good enough and I decided to live a fulfilling life. My next dilemma was, how was I going to do it?

It took a lot of courage to leave a pretty successful career, leave my country, and leave my loved ones to change my life, to do always and only what I wanted to do.

Throughout my life, I have changed my life several times.

When I felt my life wasn’t good enough, I changed it, I decided I wasn’t going to live a mediocre life. I didn’t want my children to learn to live a mediocre life, I wanted them to be happy, fulfilled in all areas and teach them to go for it, to do whatever it takes to achieve happiness in all areas, at least to always try it!

I am not perfect, my children are not perfect, but I won’t resign to being okay ever anymore, I did it and I didn’t like it. Taking consistent action in my life is a norm, I do it everyday in everything I do, because not doing it is not good enough.

Today when someone asks me, How is your day going? I can say, my day is going great, every day is a great day even when things don’t work out, still I see the good.

Take action every day to have the life you want to have, that brings you happiness.

On Valentine’s Day, we often think about treating our loved ones. I want to challenge you to treat yourself.  Even better, let us treat you this month.

  • Work without stress
  • 12:30 pm 1-mile walk with Cy

“True to Self” – Awareness

An automatic response comes up so easily. It is like the bounce-back of a ball you dropped on the ground, automatic. More than ever we need to check on ourselves, not only to give others the appropriate answer but to have awareness of ourselves and our own health.

In this time, more than ever before, we need to check on ourselves. This means assessing our physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual body. It is not easy to do a fast scan when someone asks you on the street, it is not important to give the correct response, it is important to know what’s going on with you.

We should hold our health to a really high standard, at least as high as we hold the health of others. Here are three questions you want to ask yourself:

  • Am I doing my best today?
  • Am I thinking my best today?
  • Am I eating my best today?

If you can answer, “yes” to these three questions, you are a pro. If your answers are not all positive, remember that tomorrow you can do better than today. We don’t need to be judgemental or harsh with ourselves, that also happens automatically.

Keep this in mind, when you judge others, you are judging yourself based on other people’s behaviors. Do the inner work and forget about what others think about you.

Do your best today!

Getting Connected

One of the things that helps me to stay on track is to stay accountable to others, always people I trust.

When I decided to create the group series, it seems like 1,000 years ago. It was with the purpose to create a space for everyone to join a group, to learn, stay connected, and be accountable to each other. With the experience of years of work, I realized that groups not only help to create all the things I mentioned above…

But also it helps all participants to create goals. Whether they share them or not is a personal choice, but rest assured, these goals are in their mind. Once we hold an image in our mind of something we want or desire we set up the law of attraction to make it happen. The problem is that if we don’t take consistent action towards the desire, our motivation and excitement fades away when nothing changes.

Our groups help you to achieve your goal.  Being part of our community has so many other advantages:

  • Be amongst welcoming people, holding your vision and challenges.
  • Study a powerful curriculum for lifelong learning about the mind, body, and brain.
  • Meet like minded people that will support you when you need it most.
  • Track your progress with routines and reminders at your fingertips to help you stay on track.
  • This membership opportunity is very affordable at only $49.97/month.

Self-growth often happens when we learn how to ask for help or we help others. Don’t doubt your own ability to thrive from this opportunity, join us today!

Stop Ignorance!

At the beginning of this month, we talked about the symptoms of 2020. Diabetes, suicide, obesity, addiction, and death from COVID have shaped the landscape of health for us, Americans, and the rest of the world. Not only that, we have been living in confinement for almost a year now. We have been told how to live our life basically with very few freedoms. From a health-conscious point of view, it makes sense when there is a pandemic to stay isolated.

Still, you have to question why for all this time we haven’t had a clear direction that everyone has followed equally. People go in the direction they want to follow, or, they follow whatever they have been told from whomever they follow. Now we have a vaccine and we are in the same conundrum. Are you getting the vaccine?

It seems that for many, the vaccine has an agenda, of course not the vaccine itself, but I am positive you have been hearing all kinds of craziness on behalf of that.

Things like: “The vaccine has a microchip from which we will be controlled”, as though we aren’t already being controlled through our cell phones. The vaccine is basically a placebo so you have to believe it works in order for it to work.

If you belong to a certain political party you might take it, no questions asked, and if you belong to another party you will take it because COVID itself doesn’t exist.

The truth of the matter is, you are controlled, all the time, whether you get the vaccine or not.

How about if you let others do whatever they want to do without judgment? Instead of having an opinion about what the neighbor does or believes is the right choice. Think for yourself, think about what you want to do, and let others do what they want to do. We will all have to put up with the consequences of our own choices and be good with them.

Practice prevention, educate yourself and make the best choice for yourself without judging others. If you want to be part of the discussion, join our Unlimited Membership.

Get the most out of all of our Group Series’ sessions, in which we address the ins and outs of all of these health-related issues in a free from judgment environment. You can be more of a critical thinker when you have more information and you learn how to think for yourself instead of blindly following anyone else.

Remember when you follow someone else’s beliefs, then you are following another’s limitations.

When Dreams Become More

The word “dream” implies positivity, good feelings, forward-thinking, and wanting more out of life. The question is, why are we taught not to “dream”?  Are we made to believe that dreams don’t come true?

The dream is a state of mind, whether we are awake or asleep. We call it a dream when it is involuntary or a visualization when it is voluntary. Our conscience gives us the powers of thought and choice, neither of which can happen all the time. We are always thinking, and choosing, constantly. Even when we don’t make a choice, not choosing is itself, a choice.

Dreaming big matters. When we dream big, it forces us to step out of our comfort zone, it makes us uncomfortable because we are daring to go to a place we have never been to before. The unknown causes fear for most of us. Some people, however, the brave ones, dream big and when things get tough they get tougher.

What about change, though?  It voluntarily comes out of your consciousness, it comes from choice. If we apply this principle to changing old habits, we definitely put ourselves into a very uncomfortable situation. Isn’t that thrilling?

When I first dreamed of fulfilling my purpose by creating my own business and becoming an expert in brain and behavior through nutrition and the science of the mind, I never thought I would be so lucky to really do it one day!

I dreamed of working with wonderful clients, which I do

I dreamed of leading groups, which I do.

I dreamed of teaching one of my programs in community college, which I do.

I dreamed of networking with the smartest women in this country, which I do.

I dreamed of having the best team ever, which I do.

I dreamed of training professionals in becoming brain and behavior coaches, which I love doing more every day.

I dreamed of being a member of the council on suicide prevention on the county, which I am

I dreamed of working with veterans to give back to them, which I do with the Veterans Outreach Program.

I dreamed of working doing what I love everyday, which I do, I do, I do!

Dreams do come true if you never give up on them and for this reason I will keep dreaming big.

Dare to dream big, ignore what you were taught about dreaming, the power is yours.

2020 Symptoms

The backlash of symptoms from last year doubled diagnosis on mental illness, exponential increase on type 2 diabetes diagnosis and treatment. Obesity is through the roof, we are seeing an increase in addiction, the suicide rates in teenagers is ramping up, PTSD due to deaths in family, business closures or job loss. All of these are due to COVID-19….Well, and elections didn’t make things easier.

I am not trying to be negative here, this is the reality if you are only open to see the bad in the world. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s called…

This is my year’s word. We need to start looking forward to the good, the bright, the healthy. Within all of this, the most important of all is prevention. If we learned anything this year, it is the fact that having an existing condition is not good and can have fatal consequences, as we are seeing.

Being healthy gives you a much greater chance to overcome anything in life from physical to mental illness. Nourishment is a huge part of prevention. Eating the right foods, drinking the right drinks, breathing the right air, and staying away from medication has proven to be the most effective health insurance during COVID-19.

Education is prevention that’s the reason at Nourish the Brain Institute we have created an amazing membership program to keep you educated in your own health preservation.

I am talking about mental health education and understanding the science of the mind. Join us for discussions on Mondays at 5pm, hosted by Gemi Bertran.

Also, you’ll get access to our Nourish the Brain to Think Better Group Series. These sessions show you what to eat to boost brain health. We meet every Tuesday at 5pm, and this series is hosted by nutrition and fitness expert, Elaine Hill.

That’s not all. Continue your growth of knowledge with Understanding How the Body Works For You. Gut Health. Wednesdays at 5pm with Ashley Enriquez.

Once a month we will also host a lecture series with Gemi Bertran about Brain and behavioral health.

With the membership, you will have full access to all these groups/classes for only $49.97/month. Sign Up Here

I can’t wait to see you there.

Health is the Vehicle, not the Destination

Doctors and people in general assume that when someone is in their 70’s it is normal to have poor health or at least something that is not working. Not my mom, who is in her 70’s. They have plans, they have a future, they are already healthy and they want to live longer to enjoy their time and have fun with their loved ones. Wouldn’t you want the same things? At this point of their life they already got what they wanted, They are where they wanted to be or they made peace with what they got.

Surprisingly these women and men are not taking any medication, most of them have amazing relationships with friends and family because they already purged the ones who weren’t good for them.  They eat pretty healthy, they exercise, but the common denominator in their cases is that all of them hang out most of the time with younger people. They have no interest in talking about illnesses and medications or how bad the world is.

I was having this conversation with my mom a while back. One of her friends was always talking about doctors appointments, medication and illnesses and she told her, “I love you and I deeply care about you, but I am not going to spend my time talking with you only about things that are not working. I want to talk about fun things and good things, good food or funny jokes, I can’t do this anymore and because I love you too much I don’t want to let you do this to yourself, at least while you are spending the time with me.”

Years ago my mom was very different. She was a people pleaser, she would take on everything and complain about nothing and after my dad passed away she flipped like a coin tossed in the air. She learned to let go of people that weren’t good for her, started saying what she was thinking and chose to spend time with people that she loved and were enriching her life.

To all of that I have to say “Bravo, Mama!” She is an inspiration and a gift for the entire family. She prioritizes herself and helps everyone she loves. She has awesome friends and everyone I know loves her. I am so proud of being her daughter.

Keep shining the light to what’s important for yourself and forget about what others think or do, you are not them!

Happy New Beginning 2021!

The Brain

Your Mind is the Biggest Part of Yourself

There is no way we can make good decisions if our mind is cluttered. Nor can we stay healthy and strong amongst feelings of self-doubt and anxiety. Even if we eat all the kale in the world, the deeper source of true health and happiness is within.  Our mind is the biggest part of ourselves, yet we can not see it.   Still, everyone knows it is there, right?

Our mind is divided in two parts and both parts are equally important. We have a Conscience mind which is the mind that thinks thoughts.

The mind that can lie or cheat, the mind that believes things or chooses not believe them. The mind that likes things or doesn’t like things. It is also the mind that strategically manipulates. It’s the mind that reacts when it gets triggered.

Our sub-conscience mind is our spiritual mind. This is the mind that has no filter; it takes everything in as it is right now as you see it.

Every thought the conscience mind has, good or bad, about ourselves or others, every judgement, every criticism, every doubt about our capacities, when we play the victim or when we feel sad and depressed. The sub-conscience mind perceives it as your truth.

Our sub-conscience mind translates emotions. If we have negative thinking and we get really involved and invested in sticking with that kind of thinking, your sub-conscience mind will create more of it. And the other way around, if you find the positives in negative situations your sub-conscience mind will understand everything is good and will create more of the same.

It’s that simple….I know it is not easy but it is simple. Your thoughts create your life either way. Your choice is in what you want to make it be.

Our Body is a Perfect Machine

If you remember the images that we all have seen from the holocaust, people were starving, their bodies were skin and bones, they had to fight hunger and illness at the same time that they to survive each day in unbearable circumstances.

Unfortunately, too many people died, but many survived and their bodies returned to normal after some time. For the mind it is a little more complicated. There is an amazing book written by a surviver from the holocaust. He was a jewish psychiatrist named Viktor Frankl. In his book he talks about the power of the mind and how nazis were causing unspeakable horrors. The one place nazis never reached was his mind. He could think as he pleased and he chose to have a positive attitude in his mind. Staying focused on being sane and strong-willed, he knew he was going to be okay when he would be freed.

Our thoughts and attitude are the only two things we have control over, the rest are circumstances and we can’t control them.

When we worry, stress or fear we allow the outside to control the inside, our mind. Taking control of your thinking is vital not only to develop a healthier life, it is the only thing that you can choose, to be happy every second of your life and only you can do it. You can’t make others happy and no one can make you happy, it is everyone’s job to do it for ourselves.

Here are a few things you can do to make yourself happier:

Practice gratitude every day

Exercise every day

Go to bed before 10pm every day

Eat healthy food every day

Drink water every day

Say “yes” to challenges every day

Say “I love you”  to someone you love every day

Take responsibility for your own happiness every day
